Requalification of the Tobacco Factory in Palermo with destination to social finalities
2016
From the Sixties and for many years later the construction of new buildings, both public and residential, has made our cities more and more large, with a great squandering of ground, pollution and reduction of the green areas. A necessary trend reversal has implied a growing interest towards the rehabilitation and requalification of the brownfields. These, both inside the urban fabric and in suburban areas, offer complexes of buildings with great potentiality for a sustainable reuse both from the social point of view and from the environmental one. The large dimensions, the great spans and the materials usually used make these buildings suitable to a recovery which makes possible a rehabili…
Usage of Case-based Reasoning in FMEA-driven Software
2014
Abstract Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is among the most widely used safety analysis procedures in the various industries. The procedure is generally perceived as complex and time-consuming, hindering an effective reuse of previous knowledge. In this paper we present an innovative usage of knowledge system into FMEA process using the Case-based reasoning to reduce the time and effort associated with this analysis. Knowledge system is built to serve multi-projects work that nowadays are in place in any manufacturing or services provider, and knowledge must be retained and reused at the company level and not only at project level. Collaboration is assured trough web-based GUI that s…
Benefits and drawbacks of communication visibility : from vicarious learning and supplemental work to knowledge reuse and overload
2022
Purpose This study aims to examine some of the benefits and drawbacks of communication visibility. Specifically, building on communication visibility theory, the authors study how and why message transparency and network translucence may increase knowledge reuse and perceived overload through behavioral responses of vicarious learning and technology-assisted supplemental work. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on survey data obtained from 1,127 employees of a global company operating in the industrial machinery sector, the authors used structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized model. Findings The results demonstrate that the two aspects of communication visibility yield somew…
